NGOs meeting

To discuss Protection from Domestic Violence’s draft Law

          IAA organized an expanded meeting in cooperation with Ministry of Women’s Affairs and United Nations for Women, in Baghdad on early of March, to discuss Protection from Domestic Violence’s draft Law, attended by many representatives of women’s organizations and CSOs, academics, media, and specialists in law, also UNDP representatives and UNICEF.

          The attendees formed two work groups where they discussed the draft law thoroughly, which they submitted concrete recommendations on the draft law, some presented new suggestions, some to amend its provisions and some to audit its terms and the mechanisms mentioned by the law.

The participants confirmed the importance of activating the debate on the draft law to enrich and promote it on a large scale to gain support, especially by the government, and to pass it to Parliament this year.
