Strengthening Human Rights Partnerships in Iraq: National Workshop Concludes in Sulaymaniyah
From November 7–9, 2024, the Iraqi Al-Aamal Association and the Human Rights Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Justice held a training workshop in Sulaymaniyah. The event brought together 25 directors and department heads of human rights from ministries in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. The workshop aimed to deepen knowledge and build skills essential for implementing Iraq’s National Human Rights Plan.
Participants explored the evolution of human rights concepts. The workshop covered key areas such as civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. It also provided an overview of international agreements relevant to Iraq’s national plan.
A key part of the event was a dialogue session led by Mr. Haider Abdul-Ilah Aref, Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Justice. The session focused on challenges and opportunities in implementing the National Human Rights Plan. Participants discussed ways to strengthen partnerships between government institutions and civil society.
This workshop is an important step in building Iraq’s institutional capacity in human rights. It reinforces Iraq’s commitment to its national strategies and international obligations
