A Meeting between Al-Amal Family Support Centre and the Family Protection Unit.
To strengthen the partnership between Al-Amal Family Support Centre in Najaf and the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Family Protection Unit, and to exchange experiences, and to activate the combined efforts in forwarding cases, a meeting was held at Iraqi Al-amal Association on the 18th of August 2015. The meeting was attended by the Coordinator of Al-Amal Family Support Centre and Major Haider Mohammed head of the Family Protection Unit, together with some employees of both sides officers of the Unit.
Al-Amal Family Support Centre’s coordinator gave detailed explanation on the Centre’s achievements in Najaf, the collaboration between the Centre and Najaf’s courts and the type of services provided by the Centre to the families in general and women in particular. The meeting also discussed the need to put pressure in order to open a shelter for battered women in Najaf, particularly because both sides and the judges in courts suffer from the non-existence of such a shelter. The Head of the Family Protection Unit explained what “violence” means, its types and reasons, and the need to combat new instances of underage marriage or the increased number of divorce. Both sides agreed to exchange statistics and to work as a team where Al-Amal Centers help the Unit social worker and training as they are specialists in these matters.
