“Peacemakers” and “Partnership for Safety”
In light of enhancing the role of women and girls and in cooperation with the security authorities, initiatives were implemented to enhance the role of the local community in building peace and community security. The two initiatives targeted areas in Kirkuk and Salah al-Din and focused on the importance of women’s participation in decision-making and building self-confidence and enhancing community cooperation on the other hand. The activities included training workshops, awareness sessions with community police and community leaders, and volunteer activities represented by painting school walls, hanging awareness boards, and distributing awareness brochures. The two initiatives contributed to raising community awareness and enhancing cooperation to achieve peace and stability in both governorates with the volunteer efforts of the Ornina team and the Al-Jeel Organization in cooperation with the Iraqi Al-Amal Association and the Dutch (PAX) Organization within the Safe Communities – 2024 project
