Promoting Entrepreneurship in Southern Iraq
Iraqi Al-Amal Association closed its project “Promoting Entrepreneurship in Southern Iraq” on Monday, 23 September 2024, which was implemented in the Basra and Muthanna governorates
Over the past year, Al-Amal worked in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) with funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in the Basra and Muthanna governorates to enhance development services. This was achieved by training 526 young men and women through 31 specialized workshops on the “Start and Improve Your Business” (SIYB) and “Financial Education” (FE) programs. These workshops helped develop business ideas, create implementation plans, and also improve existing projects, with a focus on making these businesses green and environmentally friendly
Al-Amal also created a guide for entrepreneurs that outlines financial, banking, and other services available to entrepreneurs in the two governorates, with the goal of facilitating their access to services that could help them establish and improve their businesses
This closing event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Basra and a member of the Provincial Council, both of whom emphasized the importance of cooperation with civil society organizations to develop services that enhance and advance the role of the private sector in the province. The event also witnessed the attendance of the Director of Youth and Sports in Basra, the Director of the Department of Labor and Social Affairs in Basra, and a delegation from the International Labour Organization, led by the Deputy Regional Director for Arab States, who stressed the importance of entrepreneurship, particularly green businesses
